10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects

outdoor spring cleaning

Spring cleaning isn’t exciting for many of us. But it needs to be done. As the holidays and winter end and we begin looking forward to spring, something within us encourages us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and purging things we’ve piled up over the winter.

But who says spring cleaning is only for the inside of your home?
The outside of your home could likely use some refreshing after a cold, wet winter, too!

It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning

Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will really improve the appearance of your home in Memphis, and, more importantly, will offer much-needed care and maintenance that will save money over the years to come.

1. Gutter Cleaning

Spring is the ideal time of year to clean your gutters, since so many  leaves and debris accumulated during the fall and winter. The pollen count is at its highest during spring, making a huge mess in your gutters if they aren’t cleaned.

Plus, pests and critters are scavenging for places to build homes during spring, so getting your gutters cleaned will help to stop an infestation in your home.

Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew, stains and returning them to a like-new appearance.

2. Window Cleaning

Home window cleaning is a must for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows will not cause you much of an issue, but any second and third floor windows can be trickier to reach.

Cleaning windows by hand is a tiring chore, and it will need a lot of supplies, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the perfect solution to get the panes and the outer frame nice and clean.

3. Pressure Washing

You don’t want clean gutters and windows on a dirty home. Which means you are going to want to pressure wash your home too!

Pressure washing is quick, effective and affordable. You can clean your home, outdoor furniture, patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with not much effort. It will knock off dirt and mud so they won’t stain your home, and you can also stop the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.

4. Driveway Cleaning

Clearing off your driveway and giving it a good cleaning may seem silly since you’ll just be driving on it, but actually, a clean, well-cared for driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.

A professional pressure washer can do wonders for driveway cleaning, whether it is concrete, asphalt, stone or some other material. Also consider adding a gravel border to your driveway to really make it pop!

5. Patio Cleaning

Your patio gets the most use in the summer, so it’s easy to forget about it during the winter when you aren’t doing any outdoor entertaining, relaxing or grilling. Your patio can be in pretty bad shape the first time you go onto it in spring.

Detergent and water – and a little hard work – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or algae, you may need to consider a more aggressive option, like professional power washing, to guarantee that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer long.

6. Roof Cleaning

Mold and moss are common home roof problems in Memphis. While you’re cleaning the outside of your home, it is an excellent time to clean your roof as well, but you’ll have to use a different process than the one you use for most of your home’s exterior cleaning.

If you see streaks on your roof, algae is most likely the reason. Moss is fairly obvious, too. These particles can’t be wiped off of shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof. Both of these methods will destroy the shingles on your roof.

The ideal method for roof cleaning is to mist the shingles with a half-water, half-bleach mixture and let it be. This mixture will kill any organisms on your roof without reducing its lifespan.

7. Clean up the Front

The front of your home is likely what most people passing by see, so make the best impression possible for visitors and for yourself! Coming home to a clean exterior will improve your day, and it will encourage you to spend a lot more time outdoors.

Clean your porch with detergent and water or a good pressure wash. Clean cobwebs and mud off of the front porch, and consider painting it a new color for a really bright look! Clean overlooked areas like the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.

8. Organize Garden Tools

You will probably be spending more time outdoors, so spring is an excellent chance to organize the things you’ll need for outdoor chores.

Gardening tools as well as pool care equipment need to all have an assigned place outside your home – a place that it is safe from harsh weather and out of sight so it isn’t a constant eyesore. Taking the time to organize in the spring will allow you to appreciate the outside of your home much more during the time of year when you spend the most time outdoors.

9. Lawn Care & Landscaping

Your lawn, trees and bushes make a big impact on the look of your home.

Eliminate weeds around your flower beds and walkways and driveway, till up places where you will be planting in the future and brush off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed poison to make yard maintenance easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all bushes too.

10. Clean the Grill

After sitting unused for several months, your gas or charcoal grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are unappetizing, but they can also make you and your family sick.

Wipe it down to remove leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber or grill brush (so you do not leave behind particles that can sometimes get into food) and a basic dish soap or degreaser.

You could probably complete these projects after a few weekends but it will be a lot of tough work. Instead, give us a call! Memphis Pressure Washing offers professional home exterior cleaning services for patio cleaning, roof cleaning, driveway cleaning, pressure washing and more!
